I love your honesty and wisdom. I'm in the Peri menopause era and it is challenging for many of those reasons you list. Movement, walking and workouts in the RW+ app, have helped me tremendously. I had just recently bought a weighted vest. I haven't tried it yet but definitely plan to incorporate it soon. My mom has severe osteoporosis, so I'm doing what I can to try to prevent that for my future. And trusting God to lead me in the ways I should go to navigate this season with his grace. Praying that for you and all our other friends here.
Oh thank you. I love that i get to do this. Feel more fired up as I move into my back years :). and yes, just wear the vest around when doing chores or moving around the house even if you can’t get outside for a walk. It’s good for you.
That is a good idea. I hadn't thought of wearing the vest when doing a few things around the house. There's no shortage of things that need done. Thank you!
Alisa....since I ran across Revelation Wellness 2+ years ago (which changed the trajectory of my life...seriously) everything you teach resonates with me. I think it's the way you teach, the way you communicate the ideas being shared, and the thought behind what is being shared. You are a learner and communicate in a way that sparks my learning. I am thankful! This lesson on menopause 👊🔥, the openness, and the encouragement.....much needed and appreciated! Keep sharing life!
Alisa! You hit ALL THE THINGS! Man is menopause taking me on a ride! I did not realize the subtle “increase” because well, I teach in leggings everyday! The enemy came at me hard and fast! Fear, betrayal, aches, embarrassment, feeling like a fraud and a failure…..whew! Here I was “revving” my heart out only to find that I couldn’t sustain my own body composition. Shallow I know, but somehow I equated being fit with honoring God and proving He is the way. I still struggle. I’m trying so hard to pull back and press in, and quit letting the enemy deceive me into falling for lesser things. I don’t recognize myself. My marriage even feels weirdly distant and it’s breaking my heart. Thank you for being willing to talk about the hard stuff. ❤️
[25] She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. [26] When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness.
I think this describes the post menopausal women living free in Christ! I felt the Lord tell me awhile back ago, Rhonda, slow and low, not only in movement but in so many things...I stubbornly have not obeyed...I really need to pause and hear what He is saying to me in this season...43 years of age was menopause for me and I am 50 now. Since 47 I have been in a fight with my body "not cooperating". I really appreciated your podcast on your post-menopause journey and yes would like to hear more. I just need to sit with the Lord in His gentleness and listen...definitely getting me a weighted vest! I appreciate how you are "curating" menopausal information but reminding us of our identity in Christ and our calling upward. I am a Rev instructor, and thankful for all the Revelation Wellness things, but I think I like this "quiet" corner with you a bit more💜 thank you!,
I am currently in perimenopause and experiencing all of the frustrations of not getting my body to do what I want it to do and getting more aggravated by the day!! However, what you say here makes so much sense and I feel like I’ve known this for sometime now but didn’t want to admit it…I have to stop doing some of these harder exercises now. My body seems to be in a revolt against me, and no wonder…I have been uncompassionate to my body and it has to stop. I love what you said:
A friend said recently to me regarding a hard circumstance I’ve been walking through, “Just because it’s hard doesn’t mean it’s wrong.” The reverse needs to be said for exercising our bodies. “Just because it feels easy doesn’t mean it’s wrong.”
God is much kinder than we are, and He doesn’t pinch, prod, or place heavy yokes.🫶🏻
Thank you for sharing this! I’m 3 years now into menopause. Praise God, night sweats & hot flashes have subsided! The whole kinder way of exercise is shifting me into a better way of moving & feeling. To beat my body & push harder has parked my butt on the couch of pain! This confirmation is a God-send & gives me permission to be ok in this season. What a gentle reminder & wealth of knowledge this is! I’m going to get that vest ordered & turn my running into more walks with the Lord!
Yes, keep sharing all the new ways! This is invaluable and important information that no one talks about. Our Good bodies need this good news with the Good News!
Menopause is where I’m at right now! I have been reading The Menopause Brain by Lisa Mosconi and I’m learning a lot! I will say I would love for you to write on this subject with your knowledge and insight with a biblical view….hint hint lol!
I am also in a season of working out kinder. I was working out in a hot studio 6 days a week for about 4 months because I fell in love with the challenge of it. I did strength, Pilates, and barre class in this studio. I hit a wall about a month ago and knew something changed. I appreciated your podcast on zone 2. I’m going to have to check out the weighted vest. What are your thoughts on hot studios? I’m not finding much research that shows the benefits. Curious what your thoughts are. I know my body was definitely saying this is stressing me out so stop it lol. So I’m on a quest to find what works for me.
Yes! Bring as much whole-self peri/post menopause wisdom and experience as you're willing to share. There are lots of helpful voices out there on this, but those with a Kingdom accent have been a little harder to find. Night sweats, achy joints, decrease in vaginal vitality - it's getting real.
Also- having a hard time finding and settling into Zone 2. Walking just doesn't get me there and then jogging jumps me to Zone 3. Which i think means i'm in great walking shape and terrible running shape! HA!
Lastly, in what scenarios/health conditions would you NOT recommend a weighted vest, and do you have any tips or precautions?
The part where you speak about weight gain .. you mention that we should listen to this teaching here for more information. I don’t see anywhere to click to listen to more information:)
Yes! It’s so good to hear about all the things so we don’t think we are alone and losing our minds. I’ve had a partial hysterectomy also and I’m still trying to figure things out but encouraging and sharing with women in the same stage is so helpful!! So, thank you!! Also, under the weight gain heading is there supposed to be a link? It says “listen to this” but there isn’t anything linked.
