Water: I'm a daily gallon guzzler fully dedicated with most water consumption before noon.
Sweat Pants: inherited an oversized pair from Momma!
Homecooking: almost always! I actually am not fond of ordering something in a restaurant that I know I can make better and way less expensive! Sidenote: Hubby calls me a knife-snob. WUSTOF is my kitchen weapon of choice!
P.S. Since I've retired as a fitness instructor, I'm loving this blog! You're inspiring me to resurrect my old blog!
I was RevX P27, additionally leading other formats. Classes known as Move with Sam I Am. And, my honor and joy was to serve as one of your 5K Coaches for LPR!
I have never been a cook, I thought I didn't like to do it, but since I have educated myself during 2024 about food and then starting the Focus40, not only am I cooking but I am prepping food for the week and enjoying doing it. It's amazing what is possible when you open your eyes to His intentions and love for us. It feels like I am cooking as a form of worship and I love it!
Melissa! you have found a weapon for spiritual warfare. Do not set it down. You are taking back authority walking in your agency and all of this will benefit your whole life. We are made up of the food we eat. Best we know what it is made of. You were made for this kind of living. 🔥
Ok, baggy sweats. Swoon. My hub and I were in Miami a few weeks ago and I grabbed a pair on sale at Zara and put them on unashamedly lots of times a week 😂
Your post a couple weeks back on health habits in 2024, nudged me to heed the call of a 40 days sugar fast this new year. Today is day 20 and I’m feeling so great in my body, my flesh is being exposed and my faith is increasing. Praise God! His kindness leads us to repentance and His gifts are always good.
You are encouraging me and teaching me and helping me! I have never been that good at cooking so I’ve never really liked it.
My daughter has been dealing with chronic illness and celiac disease which has caused me to pay closer attention to what we are eating.
I definitely need and want to make changes.
But I know me. I have always tried to make HUGE changes all at once and have always failed or eventually fall back to old ways.
This year I decided to make small changes, mostly because I haven’t felt great and I know that I’m setting myself up to fail. I decided to join Focus 40. I haven’t done perfectly but it is helping me and I’m going to continue making progress (not perfection, right?). Thank you for your heart and passion and sharing it with all of us.
Friend. Why do I feel like we live parallel lives just a few years a part 😉 I too have really embraced cooking everything from scratch and now prefer eating a fancy and delicious meal at home. Although I have always loved cooking now cooking with all Whole Foods! But you know me I will always take someone up on a fun new restaurant experience. Also my friend gave Rylee a pair of Costco sweatpants that didn’t fit her and she gave them to me and they are my first pair of sweatpants and I am in love. I feel a little homeless when I wear them but now I will embrace them 😉 love getting these newsletters! Miss you so much!
I also just started enjoying making simple meals for my family and me! There is something peaceful about cooking, too—while the kids are settling in after school and I’m talking with them in the kitchen, it makes for a nice transition into the evening, even for our busy ones.
I learned that if you find an Owala bottle you like(first time buyer) but you don't like the top and you switch it you disrupt the Owala universe🤦♀️🤣my daughter confronted me on the morality of this recently and I had to confess my transgression...kind of funny but seriously I didn't know it was a bid deal😬anyhow I have now accessoriesed my hydration with an Owala bottle, I caved in and got one and I really like it. I amgiving myself the gift of being a student of myself in my 51st year so my whole thing is learning and maturing this year spiritually, emotionally and relationally...Im learning anger is the driving seat for me alot these days and why on earth at 51 my emotions can still dictate my eating...learning why this is,leaning into God and continuing to pray His power and peace will rule my heart anew each day!
Alisa, what a great article! I have missed reading your newsletters and after just getting off a Culture Leader Zoom Training, I was able to enjoy this read. It was like hearing your voice while I read. So refreshing! I love cooking, I love dressing for comfort and not speed, and I love drinking BIG GULPS of good 'ol H20. I am blessed by reading your post because everything you wrote strongly resonates with me. Thank you for being you and I love you to life!!!!!
Oh how I love reading this. i heard YOUR voice when i was reading your reply. And I could see that big beaitufo smile. I'm loving this space to share. Its taking me back to the beginning when i was just a girl who had a passion to see people love God and their bodies in the simple to big ways.
I second your sweatpants hack. People are constantly telling me how comfy I look in my baggy sweatpants. Tear off the tags! Nobody cares. And a fave suggestion for my tall gals, look in the mens section. Stay same size or size down and you’ll get longer length and fuller in the thighs. Winning 🥇 clothes are clothes that you don’t think about all day.
I so enjoyed this post for a few reasons. I have been a long time follower. In my early 40's (62 now) God grabbed me and shook me up. I told God if I was gonna clean up it was all of me, what I took in mind, body, and spirit. I haven't looked back or regretted all the water, veg, and moving. I found Revelation Wellness, and dipped my toe in many spaces of the program. I resonate on so many topics with ya! I consider myself a little bit of a food "snob" because hello, like you said the food system is broken, and God gave us way too much good stuff to miss. Baggy sweats, girl, so thankful for them. They were my go to in college (my age lol) and so thankful to embrace them again! Peace my friend and keep on spreading the news.
This was so fun to read! I love it! I bought an oversized sweater 2 years ago to be “trendy”. I look ridiculous and wore it out exactly one time. However - it is my absolute favorite thing to wear almost every morning during the winter! Just be comfy!
Also - you are so right about learning everything you can about a bad habit you want to change. Similarly, this year I decided to take seriously my health. (Hello mid 40s!) I am reading everything about food and what we consume. Wow. But somehow it makes saying no to Cheetos a lot easier when I understand that they will literally kill my body. It has nothing to do with calories - this processed food is poison. And who would say “oh, a little poison in moderation is fine.”
Of course Good Energy by Dr Casey Means. And I have been listening to Kim Dolan Leto for about 8 months. I love her method of teaching, too!
And then digging in to Nordic lifestyle. My family is Swedish and I just wanted to know more. What I love is the focus on movement and enjoying all parts of living, celebrating with others, and treats on Saturdays. Except for a midweek treat if you want to celebrating making it through Wednesday. Ha!

The more voices the better! People need good voices to steer then towards good health sans diet culture. What did you use to teach?

Oh. Thank you for using your voice in all the places. ❤️

Love this post especially -- "Don’t wear clothes that hurt you unless you have to, especially past 6pm." -- AMEN TO THAT!!
You FEEL me. 🤪

I'm on my feet clapping for you!

Oh most definitely not perfection. Stay aware. That awarenensss will lead to care and eventually the things we care about we tend to.

We’re homesteading! Lol. Let me know when you buy a cow or chickens 🐣
